We're a girl's fast-pitch softball organization located just north of Austin, Texas.
Our organization has grown from a single team originally built in the Cedar Park / Leander
area into the premier girl's fast-pitch organization in Central Texas. While other teams and
organizations change coaches and/or players every couple of months, or fold compeletely only
to gather themselves back up and try again with a new name and/or new faces, the TEXAS COMETS
have maintained consistency by attracting and retaining some of the best long-term coaches and
players in the region. If you're interested in stepping up to the next level and being part of
something to be proud of, contact us.
Our goal is to teach character, personal responsibility,
personal accountability, self-respect, competitive spirit and sportsmanship through the medium
of softball...and play some darned good ball along the way.
COACHES: Take a serious look at what you are doing and why you are doing it.
If you think you are not a role model...guess again. The kids you coach are looking at you. They are
watching you and learning to react and respond the way you react and respond. If you are making decisions
for your team at the expense of your players, I encourage you to rethink your goals and your mission
in coaching. Use softball as a teaching tool to strengthen your kids...to teach them teamwork, and trust.
Teach them the game, but teach them how to apply the 'life skills' they learn through the game in their personal
lives. Keep your bleachers in check. Your players are watching to see what you tolerate and what you do not
tolerate. If you're just getting started, don't be afraid to ask for help. Find a coach's clinic and learn
what you are doing. And always-always-always remember these two key phrases:
"IT'S NOT BASEBALL!"
and
"THEY'RE NOT BOYS!"
PARENTS: Find a good program with a good coaching staff and teach by example.
Have you paid attention to how awful some teams behave? It is embarassing. I often wonder if people
really know how foolish they behave in public. If your coaches don't 'get it', find another program.
There's a bunch of them out there. The overall behavior of a team starts with the coaches and smears
on the players and those in the bleachers. I see too many teams with parents, coaches and players who
are simply out of control. I have seen coaches kicked out of games, parents removed from the bleachers,
fights in the bleachers, and even extreme cases where the police were called on a coach at game
...unbelievable.
This is an opportunity for the parents and the coaches to work together and teach important life-skills.
...what are YOU teaching?
